If we haven’t met before, I’m Caroline Rockey
I’m a hippie, artist, Leo, who loves to teach ART. I take walks, stare at trees, and talk about fractals with my sweetie, who loves Science. During the day, I contemplate the natural world. How it came into being? How gifted we are, how it is that amazing purples, greens, patterns on a feather exist. I love to see how I can use the leftover lemons, parsley and turnips in my fridge to create a new dish. And I admit, I live on a little island, Vashon, off the coast of Seattle and I order a lot from Amazon…
What you might not know about me… I have been showcased on Fox Q13, talking about the importance of Art during the Corona Virus. I was featured in Newsweek for planing seeds of creativity for 20 year olds at Microsoft.
What I care most deeply about is that every child has the support to express themselves creatively. I believe this comes from providing a warm teaching atmosphere of acceptance and experimentation. I also believe it comes from empowering students with the fundamentals of Art. Knowing how to mix colors, and draw proportionally, gives students the skills to draw their flying cat over the colorful rainbow.
What makes me good at what I do… is that I went to K-12 school where we had art every day for 12 years. Yes, every day. Times have changed! I studied as an apprentice in a Renaissance style, Atelier, for my masters degree, drawing and painting busts to people for three years. I have taught Visual Art, K-12, for over 15 years at the Hamlin Robinson School, Seattle Public School’s Home School Resource Center (a good preparation for this time), the Evergreen School in Shoreline, WA and Vashon Center for the Arts on Vashon Island. I have taught over 1000 students from Vashon to Seattle to Shoreline, creating art that travels to the moon and back.
My secret dream… that will some day manifest is to drop art bombs in all neighborhoods. Packages of watercolor paper, paints, a brush, sharpie, eraser and pencil so each child has access to Art. I fear sometimes that people are so caught in their minds they forget how gifted we are to be human. (I have copyrighted this idea.)
Nice to meet you! Where are you from? What do you love? Looking forward to creating together.
